Robert Lofton Brown served in the Georgia State Senate (26th District) from 1991 to 2011 and was a member of the Bibb County Schools Board of Education between 1984 and 1991. Brown was also actively involved in education policy reform in the 1970s and 1980s through his work with the American Friends Service Committee and the Southeastern Public Education Program. Brown's papers document his political career, his civic and social activities, and his advocacy for education reform and civil rights in Macon and beyond.

The collection consists of the papers of Walter B. Hill and the Hill family from 1818-1941. The papers include correspondence, legal documents from Hill's law practice, notebooks containing Hill's law lectures or class notes, an 1878 diary of Hill's daily activities, photographs, scrapbooks of clippings documenting Hill's career, speeches, and writings of Hill, letterbooks, and printed material pertaining to temperance activities in Georgia and the United States. The correspondence is mostly between family members discussing personal business but a few pertain to Hill's professional career and discuss education in Georgia, politics, or articles written by Hill. Correspondents include Hill's parents Mary Clay Birch Hill and Barnard Hill, his brother Herbert C. Hill, his wife Sallie Parna Barker (Hill), and children Parna B. Hill, Mary Minot (Brown), and Roger M. Hill. The letterbooks (1888-1893 and 1898-1899) mainly pertain to Hill's law practice with the firms of Hill & Harris (Macon, Ga.) or Hill, Harris and Birch (Macon, Ga.), but also include information on Hill's activities with the Georgia Bar Association and temperance societies. After Hill's death in 1905, the correspondence is between Sallie B. Hill, Parna B. Hill, Mary M. Brown, and Walter B. Hill. Much of the materials pertain to Sallie's work with farmer's wives as part of the University of Georgia's extension service, Parna's activities with canning and poultry clubs through the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, and both women's service with the League of Women Voters of Georgia.

The collection consists of the papers of William Harden and the Harden family of Savannah, Georgia from 1826-1936. The papers include correspondence, legal documents, genealogical materials, clippings, as well as speeches and writings of William Harden. The bulk of the collection (1844-1936) consists of correspondence to William Harden or Judge Edward J. Harden. Letters to William Harden pertain to Georgia history and family genealogy as well as letters documenting Harden's duties as Secretary of the Sons of the Revolution (Savannah, Ga.) and as Librarian for the Georgia Historical Society (Savannah, Ga.). Correspondence to Judge Edward Jenkins Harden discusses Georgia politics and law cases. Notable correspondents include Joseph Henry Lumpkin, Charles Colcock Jones, Jr., and Caroline Miller. Also includes correspondence of other family members including John Maxwell Harden, Edward T. Harden, and Ann Harden Morse. Of particular interest, are a series of letters (1826-1857, with gaps) from George Michael Troup to Dr. W.C. Daniels of Savannah (Ga.). Writing from Milledgeville (Ga.) and Washington (D.C.), Troup's letters discuss Georgia and U.S. politics, state rights, Georgia land surveys, public education, tariffs, the nullification issue, and Indian affairs.

The Georgia House of Representatives Communications Office, previously known as the Georgia House Public Information Office, provides media credentials and workspace for journalists who cover the Georgia House of Representatives. The Director of Media Relations for House Communications, under the direction of the Director of Media Services, supervises the Communications staff to facilitate the coverage by reporters of legislative activity. The staff provides bill texts and reports of pending legislation and disseminates press releases and calendars of business to accredited reporters. In addition, the office maintains taped excerpts from floor debates and online daily activity feeds. The majority of the collection consists of audio recordings (see separate AV finding aid) documenting the regular and special sessions of the Georgia House of Representatives, as well as some Senate proceedings, and photographs maintained by the House photographer. This collection includes biographical sketches of legislators, legislative reports, speeches, research materials, press releases, slide show scripts, audiovisual materials and photographs.

Georgia House of Representatives Communications House Records, Series VIII. Audiovisual Materials includes two compact discs, 1,284 audiocassettes, 236 digital audio tapes (DAT), 603 quarter-inch open reel audio tapes, and 66 VHS videocassettes, documenting the regular and special sessions of the Georgia House of Representatives, as well as some Senate proceedings. The audio reels primarily document the daily activities on the floor of the House during regular and special sessions from 1975 to 1998. The audio cassettes, from 1974 to 2004, focus more extensively on budget hearings and committee meetings, most notably those of the Appropriations Committee.
